Mangalore, Oct 12: Sri Gangadharendra Saraswati Swamiji of Sri Sonda Swarnavalli Mutt, Sirsi, said that Bhagawad Gita is the panacea for all the major problems afflicting the country and the humanity. It conditions the mind to face any eventuality, by offering solutions for every situation, he added.
He was speaking after initiating Dakshina Kannada district level programme of the 'Sri Bhagawad Gita Abhiyan' undertaken by the Mutt, at a programme held in the city on Sunday October 11.
"The man has achieved lot of success in terms of materialism and technological advancement. Still, he is bereft of mental peace. Bangalore, which tops the country as far as information technology is concerned, also is No.1 in terms of the number of suicides is concerned. Most of the problems arise because of the lust and anger that have enveloped the people's minds," the Swamiji analyzed.
He stressed that freedom and equality are the foundation stones of democracy. Harmony, treating others with equality and impartiality, upliftment of the downtrodden and integrated unity are all imbibed in the Bhagawat Gita. "Because of this, the Gita is timeless. The problem of religious conversion has arisen because of the lack of belongingness and lack of knowledge about one's own religion," he analyzed.
Prof M B Puranik offered fruits to the Swamiji. M G Hegde recited a song written by him on the Gita.
Erya Lakshminarayan Alva and Mahabaleshwar Hegde Bhairumbe were present. Dr G N Bhat welcomed. Keshav Hegde conducted the programme.
