'Want to contribute to India', says badminton star Saina Nehwal after joining BJP

New Delhi, Jan 29 (IANS): Badminton star Saina Nehwal took the political plunge on Wednesday by joining the ruling BJP.

Nehwal, who was honoured with India's highest award for sporting excellence - the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award - joined the saffron party in the presence of BJP General Secretary Arun Singh.

Soon after joining, she said, "It's pretty new for me. I would like to contribute for the betterment for India."

Heaping praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she said he was an inspiration for her move to join the BJP.

On Wednesday, along with Saina Nehwal, her sister Chandranshu Nehwal also joined the outfit.

Looking for work as her days at the court are long over . Another garb to continue in the limelight. What other way than joining politics. Today many players as well as actors think that to serve people you have to join a political party. There are n number of players and actors who serve the ‘ people ‘ by contributing from the money they earn . Let us not be fooled by some people all the time.

Great job by serving the country. It's time to retire some of the old arrogant politicians from politics who run the country & state for family and their own benefits without even contributing anything for the development. We need educated people in Indian politics.

Being a lady , I salute Saina, She has brought laurels to the nation. No matter what. Yes , she has changed fields. The max you can plan Tennis is till 30 or 32 however fit you are. Lets not be jealous of another hard working lady, feel sorry for you guys. Its her choice. We never said anything, when young Catholic ladies in Mluru contested from BJP in the recent MMC elections. So nothing wrong. At the end of the day, people will have to decide who to vote. Lets not have double standards.

Sports and movie personalities should be non political as they have fans across the board without any party affiliations. They should never favor any political party unless they want to make some quick and big money as joining bonus!

Why do sportspeople join politics? I can never understand.
Politics is a dirty, talentless, game unlike the sport that they come from..
Why lose their respect and reputation by joining a profession where even rapists, illiterates, and murderers can succeed?

Sunil, you are stating that politics is dirty and disgusting field. But people from that field only decide your livings and life. You live on their policies and what they provide you.so it is important to get right people there .Need not be disillusioned and loose everything.

I hate to admit , but its a good move. Lets not point fingers, We had Navjyot Siddu, Kirti Azad etc from Cricket joining Cong, There is no future in Congress for anyone dynamic young and new who want to serve the society. Despite 50 plus defeats we have the Party President still contending for PM post, that send wrong signals.
Even in DK , we see the same candidates contest even after 3-4 or even 5 subsequent losses. Christian candidates are joining BJP , recent examples being Valencia and Nagori. So Cong has to introspect.

To be very fair, this is where the BJP has a edge over Congresss. Its not family first and they give new young entrants a chance, unlike the Cong who still hang on to retired Ramu Kaakas, be it center or state.

Join BJP its fine, but saying inspired from Modi is not worth and its totally fake. What inspiration will get from Modi. Whatever he does only for winning elections and nothing else. If you check Modi's political carrier he never worked for betterment of the common people. All his policies have hidden Agenda. Anyways best of luck Saina. Play well in politics well

If you wanted contribute you could have joined some organization where destitute or poor people are helped financially or whatever way that is possible for you.
Purpose of joining politics only for political purpose. Many from film industry and games field have joined politics and have left or keep changing parties. All depends of personal benefits.
To keep your self free of IT sleuths eagle eyes, BJP is the best option. Your interest will be fully guaranteed.

BJP is the top organization which is not leaving any stone turned to uplift poor. Not by slogans like 'garibi hatao'. Electricity to every home, gas cylinders to every family, toilets to every house...everything will seem insignificant to you, but people on the ground love it.

Earlier when we used to transit through Goa by train, we could see clouds of white smoke escaping from tiled roofs early in the morning. Now it is not there!

It is very strange that first JOURNALISTS, who are supposed to be impartial, fair and fearless, began to act as spokespersons for the party. They were followed by certain ARMED FORCES personnel, who are supposed to be neutral and above politics of any kind, began to get involved in political matters. Now SPORTS personnel and ACTORS are beginning to do the same.

Are they doing this out of their freewill OR is it that they feel it is SAFER for them to be seen backing a political party or WORSE still, are they being forced to make these choices??
