Mangaluru, Jan 29: Pumpwell flyover work, which has become a laughing stock and source of several jokes since the last some years because of repeatedly failed deadlines, is likely to be opened for traffic on January 31. Works are being given finishing touches now. If it is completed, the netizens will miss one item which they have been trolling since many years.
Work on the flyover, which is 600 metres long and 20 metres wide, had been initiated in the year 2010. The work was agonizingly slow for the first few years and gained momentum during the last three years after the authorities put pressure on the contractors. Even though MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, relied on contractors, Navayuga Company, to complete the works and open it for the public by January last year, the work remained unfinished then. The deadlines were then extended to February and May. Finally, December 31 deadline was given and the MP had said that it would be inaugurated during the first week of January. Frustrated at the fact that his efforts were going waste, the MP had given responsibility of flyover work to the district administration.
Navayuga had assured to the district administration to complete the work by January end, and the district administration monitored the progress by getting daily report. MLA, Vedavyas Kamaht, said that there are bright chances of the inaugural of the flyover on January 31. District deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, said that the officials of Navayuga have promised to see that the work on the flyover would be completed by January 31.
