Mangaluru, Jan 29: The police, during their questioning of Adithya Rao, who has confessed to have planted a bomb at the airport here, have learnt that Adithya has a bank locker in Mangaluru too. Adithya has been in police custody since January 22.
The police have been leading Adithya to various places to complete inquest procedure. On Tuesday, he was taken to a bank where he has an account, room where he used to stay when working for a hotel here, and a hardware shop to gather details.
The police, after getting to know that Adithya has a locker in a bank at Kunjibetty, Udupi, had taken him to the bank. A chemical which looked like cyanide was found inside that locker, and the same has been sent to forensic science laboratory to confirm this fact.
In the meanwhile, the police got to know that Adithya has a locker in a bank at Kadri here. Adithya was taken to the bank and the locker was opened in his presence. The police said that only some papers were recovered from the locker.
When working for a hotel at Balmatta Mangaluru, Adithya used to stay in a room meant for hotel workers. He had got certain powdered substance online and when his colleagues questioned, he had told them that it was white cement powder. When he was taken to the hotel where he worked earlier, he reportedly pointed to a utensil which he used to mix the poison. He had bought some spare parts from a hardware shop in the city, and the police escorted him there too. It is said that he had cut the wire supplying power to the fan and it is believed that this wire would have been used for making the bomb.
Bomb hoax at local airport - Security, checking, tightened
Within a few days since Adithya Rao created panic in the city by leaving a bag at the airport that contained improvised explosive device, a hoax bomb call was received by the airport personnel.
A person, who opted to remain anonymous, called airport terminal services on Monday January 27 evening, told the receiver that a bomb had been left at the airport, and immediately ended the call. The security staff which tightened the security at the airport also undertook rigorous checks to see that nothing is left to chance. After thorough checks, it was confirmed that the call was a hoax.
There was tight security at the airport on Monday in view of the scheduled arrival of the union defence minister. The call was received at the airport within sometime since the minister's flight departed, sources confirmed.
