Mangaluru Jan 28: Mangaluru constituency MLA U T Khader has asked the union government to give people clarity regarding the implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) and hence avoid the prevailing confusion.
Addressing media here on Tuesday, January 28, U T Khader said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah are giving different statements with regard to the implementation of NRC. The government should clarify to people and resolve their doubts.”
"There is widespread opposition against the implementation of the Citizen Amendment Act (CAA), because it is against the preamble of our constitution. Law should be enforced not to create fear among people but to unite people. There is lot of confusion within the government over CAA. NRC was implemented in Assam. Why CAA was not implemented in Assam till today, if CAA was a solution to NRC? If people gather in large numbers it does not mean that whatever wrong is done will become right,” said Khader.
He also said, "CAA is against the constitution and there is hidden agenda behind its implementation. Manmohan Singh had given citizenship for refugees but he did not differentiate them on the basis of religion and caste. Both, the Central and State government has to give clarity on NRC and follow the constitution. During the pro-CAA meet, nowhere we could see our national flag. What kind of patriotism is this?”
"I congratulate Tulsi Gowda and Harekala Hajabba for the Padmashri award. Harekala Hajabba may not have his documents or he may not able to produce his father’s documents. Will they make him stand in queue? This is the perfect example on how the Act will affect the poor,” said Khader.
When asked about threat of ‘beheading’ him going viral on social media, Khader said," The youth who are seen in the video have no information on what this Act is about. The day they will know about the Act and are made to stand in queue, they will retaliate to BJP. I have not complained against them as I have deep concern for their families. Why do they have to waste energy if they want to chop-off of my head? I will come to the place as their choice and let them fulfill their wish.”
MLC Ivan D Souza said, "MP Shobha Karandlaje had said there is no protection for Hindus in Kerala. There is no clarity in her statements. This was not a party programme but government sponsored programme. I also want to question education department on giving holiday unofficially to colleges on January 27. The movement of traffic was drastically obstructed. Even this needs to be explained."
