Puttur, Jan 28: In an incident that occurred at Kolpe near Nelyadi of the taluk, two people, who questioned the inhumane transportation of cattle in a pickup truck, were brutally assaulted by the cattle transporters. In addition, the pickup truck of the people who questioned the inhumane transportation of cattle also was damaged by the cattle transporters.

This incident occurred on the night of Sunday, January 26. Roopesh and Narnappa, both residents of Kokkarda, who were attacked by the cow transporters, have received serious injuries and are admitted to a hospital in Puttur.

Roopesh, who was beaten up by the gang, was driving his pickup from Uppinangady. When he reached Kanchana, he saw a pickup truck of Kolpe, in which the cows were stuffed in an inhumane manner. He followed the vehicle, intercepted it and questioned the way the cows were loaded in the vehicle. Angered by the questioning of Roopesh and also his accomplice Narnappa, the cow traffickers, who were eight to ten in number, got enraged and beat both mercilessly. In addition, the pickup vehicle of Roopesh was badly damaged by throwing stones at it and also banging it with wooden logs.

It is also said that the gang of cow traffickers tried to kill Roopesh and Narnappa by driving their pick up vehicle on them but changed their mind as they saw a police vehicle and escaped from the spot. A case in this regard is registered at Uppinangady police station.

It is also alleged that the police of Nelyadi outpost, instead of taking the injured Roopesh and Narnappa to hospital immediately, took them to Uppinangady police station and made them to sit in the police station for over two hours.

One of the victims has suffered a fractured hand and the other has received grievous injuries to head and eye. In spite of the serious injuries Roopesh and Narnappa received, the police did not take them immediately to hospital. Public of the locality has expressed enrage over the apathy of the policemen towards the victims.
