Bengaluru, Jan 24: A video of a boy who risked his life to guide an ambulance during Karnataka floods had won praises. On January 26, he will be one among 22 to be feted with National Bravery Awards by President Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi.

Venkatesh, a class six student from Hirerayanakumpi village near Raichur became an internet sensation, after a video of him guiding an ambulance on an inundated bridge became viral.

In the video we can see the ambulance driver who was ferrying flood victims stopping the emergency vehicle. With the stream overflowing and the bridge completely under water, he is unable to differentiate the bridge from the stream.

Venkatesh does not think twice. He runs on the inundated bridge, through waist-deep water just to guide the ambulance. The driver takes his lead and safely crosses the bridge and continues on his journey.

Venkatesh’s brave act was recorded by a bystander on mobile phone. When it was uploaded on internet, it became viral within minutes.

The list of those who will be presented with the National Bravery Awards on Republic Day was announced by Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW) on Tuesday.

The National Council of Child Welfare selects the children to be awarded on the recommendation of state governments. The awardees are provided financial help to complete their education.
