Mangaluru, Jan 24: HackVerse, a 24-hour national level hackathon, to be held from January 25 to 26 is an initiative by the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, to serve as a platform to encourage enthusiastic young minds to brainstorm on solutions challenging issues affecting society. The unified motive of gathering all like-minded hackers is what led to the creation of the idea at NITK Surathkal, the first of its kind.
This hackathon is part of the year-long diamond jubilee celebrations of the institute. Commemorating 60 years of NITK, the hackathon provides a platform for innovations, where developers can test and showcase their potential to the best of their abilities.
The hackathon has seen around 2,500 registrations from prestigious colleges including several IITs and NITs and many reputed private universities all over India, making it one of the largest student-organized hackathons in India. With around 200 talented candidates making the cut after an intense review process based on their
technical profiles, it is expected that the event will be a resounding success and anticipated the presentation of innovative solutions to real-world problems. The event will also involve keynotes and workshops by executives from renowned companies such as Digital Ocean, Elastic, Wells Fargo, as well as from start-ups like Devfolio. The hackathon offers cash prizes of over Rs 1.8 lac to the top three teams and other exciting goodies as prizes worth Rs 85+ lac for participants.
HackVerse has received extensive sponsorship from a multitude of companies such as Wells Fargo, Fidelity, BSE IPF, Linode, DigitalOcean, JetBrains, Elastic and Monster and many more. Special thanks to Devfolio for providing an awesome platform.
Some notable names at HackVerse are R Bharat Raizada (senior vice-president, Wells Fargo & Company) and Dr Divakar Kamath (director, Google Cloud India) who will grace the occasion as the chief guests. Ashutosh Verma (analyst manager at Wells Fargo), Saurabh Gupta (senior developer advocate at DigitalOcean), Sharad Srivastava (senior engineering manager at Adobe Systems), Aravind Putrevu (senior developer advocate at Elastic) and Denver Jude (community manager at Devfolio) will be the
other executives present at the event.
HackVerse is a student-organized hackathon with an organizing team of 35 students and faculty members. Mishal Shah and Namrata Ladda, BTech final year students from NITK are the convenors for this event. Other student organizing members include Adarsh Malapaka, Akash L, Keerthana Polkampally, Mehnaz Yunus, Pavan Vachhani, Sai Sushil, Shreyas Seshadri, Shreyas Shankar, Soham Patil, Swathi Bhat and Varsha Mavath. Prof Karanam Umamaheshwar Rao (director, NITK Surathkal), Prof S M Murigendrappa (chairman, diamond jubilee core committee), Prof Jagannath Nayak (dean - Student welfare) and others have actively supported HackVerse since its inception. Faculty advisors guiding this event are Dr Anand Kumar M and Dr Sowmya Kamath S (department of Information Technology) and Dr Suprabha K R (School of Management).
