Mangaluru, Jan 23: The third edition of the traditional Rama–Lakshmana Jodukere Kambala will be held on January 25 in the slushy fields at Goldfinch City under the aegis of Capt Brijesh Chowta.
Addressing media here on Thursday, January 23, Mangaluru Kambala Samithi president Capt Brijesh Chowta said, "This is for the third year we are organising Rama-Lakshmana Jodukere Kambala. Last time around, we have full-fledged support for the Kambala and this time we are back on January 25 to organise it in Goldfinch City.”
"Over 100 pairs of buffaloes are expected to take part. Kambala will be held in six categories such as Negilu (junior) section, Hagga (junior) section, Negilu (senior) section, Hagga (junior) section, Kane Halage and Adda Halage. The winners of Kane Halage, Hagga and Negilu (senior) will be awarded with 2 sovereign of gold and runner-ups will awarded with 1 sovereign of gold, while winners of Adda Halage, Hagga, Negilu (junior) section will be awarded with 1 sovereign of gold and runner up will be awarded with half sovereign of gold,” said Brijesh Chowta.
The Rama-Lakshmana Jodukere Kambala will be inaugurated by president of Sri Brahma Baidharkala Garadi temple, K Chittaranjan, presided over by former MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, Brigediar I N Rai, Monappa Bhandary and others will be guest of honour, said Capt Brijesh Chowta.
For the formal function to be held in the evening, MRG Group managing director K Prakash Shetty, union minister D V Sadananda Gowda, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, minister for tourism C T Ravi, district-in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje, BJP state general secretary Aravind Limbavali, MP Bengaluru South Tejasvi Surya will be guests of honour, he said.
Prize distribution ceremony will be held on January 26, which will be presided by Zilla Panchayat president Meenakshi Shanthigodu, former MLA Mallika Prasad, Zilla Panchayat vice president Kasturi Panja and others, said Brijesh Chowta.
Moodabidiri MLA Umanath Kotian, Mangaluru Kambala committee working president Ullal Nandan Malya and others were present.
