Horse-mounted police units to launch across Maha: Anil Deshmukh

Mumbai, Jan 20: Earlier, home minister of Maharashtra Anil Deshmukh announced that the government was keen on setting-up horse-mounted police units across the state.

Defending the decision, Deshmukh stated that the horses give a height advantage which helps in patrolling.

"The height advantage of patrolling on horseback helps in high-visibility policing. As of now, the unit will work in Mumbai, and later will be started in other parts of the state," Deshmukh said.

Reportedly, the state and the police are elated to revive the horse-mounted patrolling after 88 years. The Mumbai unit will be inducted into the force on January 26.
