Mangaluru: Suspected bomb at airport shifted to Kenjar for disposal

Mangaluru, Jan 20: The bag found with suspected bomb at Mangaluru International Airport was shifted to Panambur bomb disposal unit by bomb freezing unit. It is learnt that the bomb disposal unit operating at Mangaluru Airport will lead the disposal.

Meanwhile, the bomb suspected bag will not affect flight traffic. All flights from Mangaluru and arrivals to airport are operating on time. Police have tightened the security of the airport. Large number of police are deployed at various corners of the airport.

The suspicious laptop bag was found near the ticket counter of the airport at around 10 am. When the bag was checked by the bomb disposal squad, it was found to be live. The CISF personnel, who are manning the security of the airport, immediately shifted passengers to safer place in the airport. Security was tightened in and around the airport.

The live bomb was brought out of the airport and was kept in the vehicle used for bomb diffusing. Information is also available that a stranger, who arrived in auto-rickshaw to the airport, left it at the ticket counter.

Abandoned bag with suspected bomb found at Mangaluru airport

Mangaluru, Jan 20: A suspicious looking, unattended bag was found abandoned at the airport on Monday January 20. The bag was found kept in the rest area meant for the passengers outside the airport.

Bomb squad undertook detailed check of the bag. A wired device, suspected to be a bomb, was found inside the bag. 

At the same time, Bajpe police and airport security staff, which were alerted and pressed into service, are on high alert. They have been taking measures to ensure safety of people and infrastructure.

According to sources, a man in an auto-rickshaw came to the airport and placed the bag. 

Sources at the airport said that bomb squad from Bengaluru has been asked to rush to Mangaluru. The bag with the suspected device has been placed at an open ground.
