Kundapur, Jan 16: A fishing boat partially sunk about 30 nautical miles off Gangolli fisheries port. People in another boat rescued all six fishermen of the ill-fated boat.
Helmsman of the boat Venkatesh Harikanth, and fishermen, Nandish Kharvi, Santosh, Huliyappa, Duragappa Harikanth and Annappa Harikanth were saved from the jaws of death.
The boat in question was registered at Malpe and was owned by Jayalaxmi from Kody - Kanyana. It had left Malpe port for fishing at 10.30 pm on January 12. On January 14, when the boat was about 30 nautical miles away from Gangolli, the rear side plank broke and water started to gush in. The helmsman immediately used the wireless phone and sent SOS signal. People in Sairam boat nearby came there and rescued the six fishermen.
Gangolli Coastal Security Police station sub-inspector, Sandeep G S and others collected information from the boatmen. It is estimated that the loss could be about ten lac rupees. Fishermen went to the spot in two boats towards assessing the practicability of bringing the boat out of water and back to the shore.
