Udupi, Oct 1: The district Congress Committee has suspended Shyamala Sudhakar, who won from Kallianpur constituency on a Congress Party ticket to the taluk panchayat (TP) and then became the president of the TP with the support of the BJP, from the party, through an order issued on Wednesday September 30.
"Shyamala had been given an opportunity to contest as the Congress Party candidate for the taluk panchayat thrice from different constituencies and won. The party also gave her opportunities to become the taluk panchayat president twice. Still, she violated the whip issued by the party during the taluk panchayat election this time," said the district Congress president, M A Gafoor.
He said that the district Congress committee had, as per the recommendation of the local block congress committee, written to the state committee to suspend her. Through a press release, Gafoor also said that Vasant Marne, a taluk panchayat member representing Manipur constituency, who remained absent during the elections held for the posts of the taluk panchayat president and vice-president, has been issued a show-cause notice, for violating the party diktat to be compulsorily present at these elections.
