Mangaluru, Jan 14: The feast of confraternity (Comprichen Festh) was celebrated in traditional joy and gaiety on January 12 at St Sebastian Church, Permannur.
As anticipation for the parish feast on January 19, the entire parish got together in huge numbers on this blessed day.
The Eucharistic procession began at Adamkudru chapel, where the entire parish community, the young and the old participated. The musical band, the choir of the parish, the prayerful singing of the parishioners and the colourful decoration along the way with quotes from the scripture added magnificence to the entire celebration.
Fr J B Saldanha, the parish priest and Fr Santhosh D'Souza, the assistant parish priest, Dn Steevan Cutinha along with the leaders of the wards took extra initiative in encouraging the parishioners all along the week in their preparations for the day.
After the procession, the parishioners assembled at the church ground to participate in the Benediction that was again led by J B Saldanha. The entire proceeding of the Confraternity Sunday displayed nothing but the immense faith that the parishioners still have in the Church and the Lord.
The Eucharistic celebration began at 6 pm with Fr Antony Shera, secretary of CBE as the main celebrant. He rendered in his homily the importance of having a healthy parish community. The theme of the sermon was 'I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever'. During the Eucharistic celebration, the concelebrants were Fr Henry Sequeira, Fr Valerian Pinto, Fr Rohan Lobo, Fr Edwin Mascarenhas.
