Kasargod: Theft at Kanhangad temple - Thieves return with rich haul

Kasargod, Jan 14: Unknown thieves who gained entry into a temple at Kanhangad on the night of Monday January 13 succeeded in looting gold ornaments and cash.

The theft happened at Lord Mahavishnu temple at Kadinhathur, Kanhangad. The theft came to light in the morning on Tuesday, January 13, when the priests reached the temple to offer morning puja to the presiding deity.

A verification revealed that the thieves had entered the temple by removing some tiles of the roof on the rear side of the temple.

The stolen items weigh about 20 sovereigns of gold ornaments including the golden crown adorning the head of the deity. The thieves have also opened donation boxes, and coins could be seen scattered everywhere.

The police have reached the spot. Investigation is on. Finger print experts too have arrived and they are conducting checks.
