Mangaluru, Jan 14: A huge protest led by Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Muslim Central Committee against the implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is being organized at the Shaha Garden ground next to the national highway at Adyar Kannur on Wednesday, January 15 at 2.30 pm.
Retired IAS officers, Harsh Mandar and Kannan Gopinathan, retired judge Gopal Gowda, human rights activist Shivasundar, and advocate Sudheer Kumar Maroli, will be the main speakers at the programme, said K S Mohammed Masood president of the committee, addressing a press meet here on Monday, January 13.
Dakshina Kannada Qazi Thwaka Ahmed Musliyar, Udupi district Qazi Bekal Ibrahim Musliyar, Ullal Qazi Fazal Koyamma Tangal, Dakshina Kannada district Wakf Committee president U K Monu Kanachur, Mysuru Hurilinga Peddimath Sri Jnanaprakash Swamiji, Mangaluru Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Catholic Sabha president Paul Rufi D'Costa, MLA U T Khader, MLC B M Farooq, former MLA B A Mohiuddin Bava, Sunni Youth Federation state general secretary Dr Abdul Rashid Zaini, Karnataka Samastha Mushavara state secretary U K Abdul Aziz Darimi and several other dignitaries and leaders will participate.
Masood stated that the main theme of the protest will be a national flag in one hand, constitution in the other, non-violence in the mind and Jana Gana Mana on the lips. Participants can hold only the national flags and placards prepared by the committee. Participants should exercise restraint and peace and make maximum efforts to not cause any problems or inconveniences to others. He said that women and children cannot take part on account of paucity of space.
Central Committee vice presidents Ibrahim Kodijal, B M Mumtaz Ali, and Syed Ahmed Basha Tangal, general secretary Muhammed Haneef, as well as coordinator of the meet Mansoor Ahmed Azad, were present.
