Mangaluru, Jan 11: The currently utilized sources of energies like fossil fuels cause around 60% of the energy used to be wasted in the form of heat. At Srinivas University, they have developed an eco-friendly thermoelectric technology to scavenge this waste heat and convert it into useful form of electrical energy.
This work titled 'Enhanced Thermoelectric Performance of Bulk Tin Telluride: Synergistic Effect of Calcium and Indium Co-doping' authored by Prof D Krishna Bhat (NITK) and Dr Sandhya Shenoy, associate professor, College of Engineering and Technology, Srinivas University, published in Materials Today Physics (an international journal) has been selected as Editors' choice.
This is the only research article from India designated as Editors' choice in Materials Today Physics.
This technology enables generation of electrical energy when a material is subjected to temperature difference at its ends. The promising results of this work has a potential to be commercialized and can help in resolving the world-wide energy crisis in the near future.
