Mangaluru, Jan 11: The 5th edition of the NITK Karavali Marathon organized by NITK Alumni Association is an annual event with an enduring purpose to promote fitness and a healthy lifestyle amongst students and create social awareness amongst the people of the Karavali region. This run started as a beach run in 2015 (the only one of its kind) gained momentum over the years and the 2019 edition was the first full marathon that was inaugurated by P T Usha with over 2,500 participants. In addition to promoting #Fit India Movement, the 2020 edition of the Karavali Marathon will drive awareness on 'Combat Climate Change' and the drive will be called to action in the Karavali region with the help of this year's ambassador, international athlete, Arjun Devaiah.
The NITK Karavali Marathon 2020 that will be held on Sunday January 12 will be a special edition as part of NITK diamond jubilee year celebration. Event organization is supported by Rotaract Club and NITK Students’ Council and perhaps the only full marathon (41.2 km) in India that is entirely conducted by the students. With just over 2,000 enthusiastic runners slated to participate this year, the marathon is expected to be a resounding success. The unique feature of the run is that the part of the marathon trail is on the scenic NITK Surathkal beach, along the beachside temple and lighthouse.
The event includes a full marathon (42.2 km), half marathon (21.1 km), 10 km, 5 km races and a 3 km fun run. The event that is open to men, women and children above 10 years, has a low nominal fee and carries a total prize money of over Rs 3.5 lac. Participants will get T-shirts, timing certificates, race photos, immediate results via SMS, physio support for recovery, food and entertainment.
NHAI, Mangaluru has granted permission for the use of NH-66 from the junction near Govindas College, Surathkal until Tannirbhavi Beach from 5.00 am to 11.00 am on the January 12 as this stretch of the highway is part of the route for the races.

To ensure smooth organizing of the run, all the participants are requested to kindly report at the landmark mentioned below, well before the start of their race.

Note:
* All the participants must carry proof of identification on the day of the marathon.
* Report at least 30 minutes before the run.
* Route maps are attached below for reference (42K will be 2 laps of the 21K route).
