Sr Jacintha D’Souza explained that classroom teaching is more focused on student-centred strategy and offers equal participation of students and teachers in the learning process. "We adopt innovative teaching methods which are decided at the beginning of the year so that teachers have ample time to prepare to deliver their best. The feedback at the end of introducing a new teaching methodology is taken from the students that have been taken into consideration in further accepting, adopting, refining or rejecting the specific teaching methodology to learn a particular subject matter. All this, facilitated a great impact right from the time of sessional examinations to excel in academics. The collaborative efforts by all the faculties brought about this result. The regular parent-teachers meet bore fruit too. Regular updates of the student’s academic and wellbeing were discussed at length at such meets. This allowed for the growth of the student and the institution too.
Dr Devina said that the remedial teaching methods opened up a door for the slow learners to have a steady improvement in their unit tests and confidence further increased in writing answers in an organized way in the sessional examinations. The skill workshops, simulation lab, Experiential learning, practical oriented teaching, field visits, community service, small group teaching, quiz, concentrate approach to find solutions to real clinical issues and UG research and publications
moreover, the students were advised to look upon available E-resources at the library and learn about the topics that made them study at their comfortable pace and actively contribute to the classroom sessions. All these aspects made a huge change in the academic results. The advanced and slow learners were recognized by a pre-determined criteria and advanced learners were deputed to participate in workshops and conferences as well as peer group teachings. Co-operative learning was assigned to advanced learners that helped the students to actively involve themselves in learning. In the clinical areas, the students were supervised by the teachers in small groups, each teacher having 8 to 10 students that enabled them to learn clinical skills and face practical examinations with greater confidence.
