Kundapur, Jan 11: In a suicide bid attempted by a couple, along with their one and a half year old child, in a moving bus in the town, Rajkumar, husband of the woman, died on the night of Thursday at Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru. His wife's condition is said to be critical.
On Thursday, Rajkumar (35) and his wife Sangeeta (28), natives of Tamil Nadu and presently residing in a tent near Ambalpady in Udupi, had consumed poison and also had fed the same to their one and a half year old child. This was noticed by the co-passengers of the bus and they were immediately taken to hospital and later shifted to Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment.
It is said that traces of poison are found in the mouth of the one and a half year old boy, son of the couple and it is suspected that the empty bottle of poison, after consuming the same by the couple, might have been fed to the child.
The poison that is consumed by the couple is said to be Aromine or Yellow Cow Dung powder, for which there is no antidote. There is evidence of using this poisonous substance, which has yellow florescent like colour but odourless and tasteless, in many suicide cases that have taken place in parts of Tamil Nadu like Erode, Coimbatore and Tirupur. It is suspected that the couple must have bought it from Tamil Nadu and kept in their bag in advance.
