Udupi, Sep 27: Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodbidri, was chosen for the title, ‘Karnata Kala Poshaka Award’, by Nama Tuluver Kala Sangatane (NATKA), a renowned drama troupe from Mudrady, near here.
While picking Dr Mohan Alva for this coveted title, his significant contribution towards promoting talented students, helping them to excel in studies, by providing free boarding and food at the College campus at Moodbidri, organizing of the event, ‘Alvas Nudi Siri’, an annual cultural extravaganza that is being acclaimed across the nation and abroad, since it is being held to showcase the diverse cultural hierarchy of various states in India, were taken into account.
Besides, Dr Alva has set up a ‘Shobha Vana’ (nursery) of nearly 1,380 rare medicinal plants and also has built a museum of rare Tulunadu folk artefacts and objects worth over four crore rupees, which educates the visitors on the rich cultural hierarchy of bygone era.
Dr Alva has been a keen sportsman, has been encouraging the athletes at his physical training Institute. The athletes and sportsmen who have undergone at this institute have excelled in both state and national sports competitions. A few of them also have brought laurels by competing in international sports competitions.
Dr Alva is also the recipient of ‘Best Talented Youth in The World’ award by the Oxford University. Besides, he is also the recipient of Karnataka Nataka Academy Award, Karnataka Rajyotsav Award and Basavasri Award, just to mention a few. ‘Karnata Kala Poshaka’ title will add another feather to his cap.
The title will be conferred on Dr Mohan Alva, at a glittering ceremony that will be held at B V Karanth amphitheatre, Mudrady, here at 6.30 pm on Sunday September 27.
