Puttur, Jan 9: Based on a complaint of illegal confinement and fake policemen threatening and assaulting him and his friends filed by Dileep T from Taliparamba taluk in Kannur district, the Uppinangady police registered a case on January 8 under different provisions of Indian Penal Code and took some suspected accused into custody. The case is being followed up.

Dinesh T from Perubulli Kari Kutyatoor in Kannur district, in his complaint, claimed that he received a call on his mobile phone from a girl on January 7, asking him to come to Kasargod if he needs people to work in stone quarries. Dileep along with his friends, Janardhanan, Prashant and Praveen, came in his Innova car from Kannur. He repeatedly called the girl seeking directions and met the girl at Puttur bypass road at 12 midnight on January 7. Along with her, he and his friends reached a house which was located 500 metres away at 12.30 am. They saw that another girl was already present there.

At that time two men came there all of a sudden, assaulted him and his friends, and kept him in illegal confinement in the room. They clicked photos of the complainant in the company of girls and threatened to give this to the police and television channels. They reportedly hit the men with hands. Three persons who claimed themselves to be policemen, came there later, beat up the men and demanded payment of ten lac rupees failing which they said that they would provide the photos to television channels. When the complainant and his friends said they do not have that much money, they snatched away their mobile phones, money, car key and car documents. They also got their signatures and finger prints for certain documents and kept them inside the room. At 10 am on January 8, a person who had claimed himself to be policeman, took the complainant and others, saying that they were being taken to police station. Instead, they took the men in the said Innova car to a resort about 15 km away where again they were kept in illegal confinement.

When the Uppinangady police raided the resort, the accused fled from the scene. The police are continuing with their investigation, a release by the police department said.
