Bangalore, Sep 26: The state High Court registrar has informed Bangalore Advocates Association, that the letter addressed by the Association, requesting for the withdrawal of the circular that has banned keeping of idols, statues, portraits etc., of any Gods in the court premises of the state and performing any kind of worship therein, would be placed before a committee of five judges.
The Association had written to the High Court registrar on Tuesday, seeking withdrawal of the impugned circular issued in July. In reply, it is learnt, the registrar informed as above.
The association in its letter, said that the circular has the potential of hurting the religious sentiments of the people, giving rise to disquiet and angering the devotees. It has pointed out that in courts and several other forums, oath is being taken in the name of Gods. They argued, that accepting the God while taking oath and banning everything associated with the Gods in courts, was not proper. "About 600 members of the Association have urged for convening a general body meeting to oppose the circular. In view of this, the circular needs to be withdrawn," it said.
The registrar said that a committee of five judges had released this circular and as such, the request to withdraw it will be placed before the same committee. It may be recalled that except the photograph of Mahatma Gandhiji, judges or dignitaries connected with the judiciary, no idols, statues, worship etc., are allowed either in the court building, Bar Associations or Bar Councils in the state, as per the said circular.
