Kundapur: Bhandary community ridiculed by Yakshaganka artiste - Complaint filed

Kundapur, Jan 7: A complaint stands filed against Yakshagana artiste Dinesh Kadaba, in Shankarnarayana police station in the taluk. Dinesh has been charged with making derogatory remarks about the profession of hair dressing traditionally followed by Bhandary community when depicting a role in a Yakshagana show organized at Moodbidri on Sunday January 6.

The complaint was made by Halady Region Bhandary Samaja Sangha president Nagaraj Bhandary Halady, Bhandary Yuva Bedike president Harish Bhandary, vice president Lokesh Bhandary, and secretary Satwik Bhandary.

Udupi District Savita Samaj state representative Vishwanath Bhandary, has also expressed anger at the way a Yashagana artiste when acting out a role at Moodbidri, had made fun of the profession the Bhandary community has been pursuing traditionally. Udupi District Savita Samaj, which convened a press meet, accused the artiste of indulging in character assassination of Bhandary community. The Samaj has sought unconditional public apology from the artiste. President of the Samaj, Bhaskar Bhandary Guddeangady and general secretary Sadashiva Bangera Kurkalu, in a release, warned that strong protests will be convened all over the state against the artiste if he fails to apologise.
