Mangaluru, Jan 7: Sandesh (10) from Athani taluk in Belagavi district, who had become sick after falling into a pond inside the Kadri temple complex here, lost his life on Monday January 6.

Sandesh was playing in the temple pond along with some other children on Sunday evening when he momentarily drowned in the pond and became sick. He was immediately brought out of the pond and admitted into a private hospital. At around 1.30 am on Monday, he passed away.

Sandesh was one among 60 children from Athani who had come to the city to appear for the entrance examination being held for admission into Sainik Schools. The examination was held at Canara high school on Sunday. The children and five teachers who accompanied them had together gone to Kadri temple thereafter.

The deceased boy was the son of Sripathi Shinde and Rajashree couple from Athani taluk. His father is a soldier currently posted in Arunachal Pradesh. His father wanted Sandesh to get admission in Sainik School and for that purpose, the boy had also been admitted into a coaching class.
