Mangaluru, Jan 7: Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Muslim Central Committee, which was hell bent on carrying out a huge protest convention at Nehru Maidan of the city to oppose the controversial CAA and NRC amendment acts and also to create awareness about the same, has shifted the venue of the protest from Mangaluru to Adyar-Kannur on the outskirts of the city.
Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Muslim Central committee had earlier announced that it will conduct a peaceful protest against the central government acts of CAA and NRC on January 4 at Nehru Maidan, along with the cooperation of 28 other organizations. However, home minister of state Basavaraj Bommai had instructed the committee to postpone the same. City police commissioner also did not give approval for the protest convention citing many law and order situations. Later, the Muslim Central Committee had decided to postpone the same.
Leaders inspecting the spot of protest at Adyar
Now the committee has shifted the proposed protest venue from Mangaluru to Adyar and will hold the same on a spacious 15 acre of land in front of the Adyar Kannur central Juma Masjid. Committee leaders visited the place on Monday, January 6 and inspected the venue.
Discussion is also on for offering prayers in between the convention. The committee is also thinking of arranging space at three nearby Masjids to offer the Asar and Magrib prayers. The sources said that the date of the protest convention is likely to be finalized in the meeting that will be held on Tuesday, January 7.
Leaders of Muslim Central Committee Haji Kodijal Ibrahim, B M Mumtaz Ali, S M Rashid Haji, Hanif Haji Bunder, Basha Tangal, Salim Sufikhan and ACP Kodandarama of Mangaluru south sub division with Inspector Amanullah inspected the spot of protest on Monday, January 6.
