Culture minister Gawde urges people to donate for welfare of specially-abled

Margao, Jan 6: Addressing at the international deaf summit 2020, the chief guest of the valedictory session, Minister for art and culture Govind Gawde stressed people to donate towards the upliftment of specially-abled.
 
Gawde said, “There are many people who make huge donations to temples. I would urge them to donate for the cause of the specially-abled people so that they can join the mainstream of society and help alleviate their hardships.”
 
 
Referring to his trip to the USA he spoke of how sign language was being extensively used by the people. He also proposed the need to provide better facilities to the specially-abled people.
 
Earlier, the organizers of the summit made an impassioned plea to the centre and the state government to open adequate sign language training facilities to facilitate the deaf community to overcome the communication barrier while interacting with the society. They also demanded that the Indian sign language be included in the list of official languages of the country.
