Bengaluru: CAA unconstitutional, ploy to divert people's attention from economy - Senthil

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jan 5: The protests organized under the banner, 'Hum Bharath Ke Log' at the town hall and other locations in the city on Saturday January 4 against the implementation of Citizenship Ammendment Act and National Register of Citizens (NRC) witnessed good attendance and active participation.

In his address, former deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Sasikanth Senthil, who has resigned as IAS officer, made a pitch for the withdrawal of CAA, duly holding it unconstitutional. He said that it is against the founding principles of the Constitution and hence irrelevant to India.

Senthil further accused the union government of trying to pave the way for confrontation between the majority and minority communities with an eye on votes with these kinds of law. He said that CAA and other such initatives are aimed at bagging power and divert the people's attention away from the poor economic situation in which India finds itself in, and other serious issues affecting the country.

The programme had a good number of audience comprising mostly women and children. As the town hall also happened to be the place where Bharath Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) employees held protest against the privatisation move, there was some confusion. The police said that BEML employees were permitted time till 4 pm and that they overstayed the time without authorization. Therefore they were denied the permission to take out a procession to the Freedom Park.

The protesters were separated with the help of barricades. Some of the protesters said they were not opposed to CAA but are apprehensive about the affect it will have on poor classes which are devoid any documents to prove their citizenship.

BJP is not playing mere politics. BJP is a party of ideological fanatics. BJP policies in Kashmir and the CAA/NRC are part of the Hindutva ideology which seeks to subjugate Muslims.

Economy is in the downturn and probably will go into recession soon. Some fundamental problems arising out of greed and practiced through decades are responsible and the current Government is not doing anything about it.

    1. People buying less cars due to slow improvement in infrastructure: With narrow roads (read infrastructure) and traffic condition, car still is aspirational and not a mode of transport as critical in some developed economies. For example, travel time has not reduced in last 10 years between Bangalore and Mangalore. If it had reduced due to good roads, many people would have seen a point behind buying cars or changing cars as they use it for long distance.

    2. Babu's money and participation with greed by Government: Guidance value only increased with time due to greed by Governments. Guidance value should be handled by independent authority and should be allowed to vary based on market. As a result real estate has come to standstill. With Babu's money locked in real estate, Government made a futile and ill-guided attempt by pumping 50k crore of tax payers money. Again bad move.

    3. No proactive policy towards Agriculture: This sector forms 60% of our economy. No serious reforms was made in the past decade. Social alleviation of farming sector did not happen and all Governments were insensitive towards it requirements.

    4. Toxic assets of Banks: Banking sector will take much more longer period and infusion of tax payers money to play a positive impact to economy. Blatant violations and favors to select cronies means tax payers have to foot the bill for mistakes of the Bank. Not a single Bank closed because of bad biz decisions despite running losses to the tune of several thousand crores.

I was hoping Senthil will get to the bottom of the problem because of his exposure, rather than act like another sundry with political ambition.

..Economy declines & rises..its cyclical..US/CHINA or any other country faces this every 10 years..Election comes n goes, Govt comes n goes..but can we wait for another 100 years to solve JK, A370, Ayodhya or prevent illegal immigrants...if we take immigrants like how Congress n others want, then neighbouring countries produce & dump at our door step..just cant imagine how Rohingyas ended in Kashmir while our own pandits not able settle in their homes there!!..is it not alarming!!..the political parties which is brain washing people are the same which advocated CAA/NPR/NRC few years back..what else proof we need..its surprisng that IAS officers like senthils, kannans fall prey for these politics and resigned to job...they should learn from original supporters/founders of AAP party..where are those who resigned to high paid jobs & formed AAP..

CAA is not that bad as presently politisied... And it is very much needed for the development of the country if implemented and then followed up properly.
For time being it looks like to divert the peoples attention from deminishing economy, unemployments etc.. But it is BJPs plan to vote bank for 2024, divinding country of religion too.

Congress too played dirty vote bank politics for the past 60 years? Even today they are, and they stand exposed. 85% of the Indian majority is supporting because this is as per the BJP election manifesto. It is only a tiny section inside this vast county that is not comfortable for an absolute reason which they are not saying it openly.

What to do with strong economy, when there is no security to the people of the country. First we should implement NRC. Everything will follow.
