Chikkodi, Jan 4: When one thinks of a government school the picture that strikes the mind is that of a dilapidated structure covered with broken tiled roof, walls that may collapse anytime, the same old blackboard and teachers who do not report to school regularly. However, a teacher, with his dedication and creativity, has changed the picture of a government school in the taluk.

If one sees this government school, he or she just cannot believe that it is a government owned school because it is second in none any smart school in its appearance as well as teaching method.

This government school, which can compete with any of the best private schools in the state in situated at Nidagundi village of Raibhaga taluk of Belagavi district. The brain behind this transformation is teacher and litterateur Veeranna, due to whose efforts this government school has got the looks of a private school.

Veeranna has brought the equipment required for the smart classroom from some part of his salary as well the as the donations of kind-hearted people of society. He has started smart classes. The topics that are complimentary to the texts of subjects are being shown to students from YouTube.

Another specialty of this school is that there is no compulsion on the students that they should bring notebook and pencil while coming to school. If they watch the subject on television and grasp that is enough. Teachers of this school say that if a teacher teaches the lesson along with corresponding video it will make a permanent impression on the minds of the students.

120 students are studying in this school from first to fifth standard. Generally the government does not provide desks to primary schools. However, in this school every student has got a chair. The teachers of the school themselves have donated the chairs. Every wall of the school is decorated with paintings that are related to the studies.

On the whole, this school has grown by leaps and bounds in three years and has attracted private school students to join the school. The number of students joining the school is increasing year by year. If this model is followed by all the government schools throughout the state there is no need to conduct 'Save Government schools' campaign. Surely the government schools will be in high demand.
