Bengaluru, Jan 4: Government of Karnataka has decided to conduct a joint survey in the wake of several complaints received from the public regarding illegal stone mining activities taking place in various parts of the state under the limits of Deemed Forest areas.

Sources close to the government have informed that the government has received complaints from 13 mining companies involved in illegal mining in forest areas in various parts of the state, including the districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. So the government has decided to hold a joint survey by officials of revenue, forest and department of land records.

In the meeting, that was held in this connection, under the leadership of forest minister C C Patil on Friday, January 3, it is decided to put an end to these illegal mining activities in areas that fall under the limits of forest and deemed forest areas. Discussion is held with the officials of revenue and mining departments and they have been instructed to fix a suitable date for this exercise.
