Mangaluru, Jan 4: “Statistics show that only two lac illegal residents live in the country. But the government claims more than one crore illegal residents are living in the country. This shows the efforts of the government to suppress Muslims,” said Malayalam film and documentary director Gopal Menon.
He was speaking on Friday, January 3, at a protest meeting held at K C junction in Talapady, against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Registery of Citizens (NRC) by Sanyukta Nagarika Vedike.
“This is the land where martyrs Tipu Sultan and Gauri Lankesh were born. We will not allow implementation of the Act, even if we have to sacrifice our lives. The harmony between Hindus and Muslims should not be spoilt at any cost,” he said.
“Though Babri Masjid court verdict was pronounced in favour of Sangh Parivar, there were no untoward incidents in Talapady where Muslims are in large numbers. There is no need for police to be tensed about people in Talapady as people here are peace lovers. If the current behaviour of the Prime Minister despite knowing that all are equal in democracy continues, the government will not last till next elections. Hitler had said that he will provide good days for people but had made them drown in the sea of blood. He committed suicide when he was about to lose the war. The violations in EVM machine were proved in Amethi showing 13,000 excess votes in the machine than the number of people who came to vote. There is no need of another wrongdoing. Modi should remember the life of Hitler. History
repeats itself. Former Indian President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed and military officer who fought in Kargil war are made victims of CAA. Attempts to divide the country on the basis of religion are condemnable,” he said.
Advocate Sudheer Kumar thanked Ullal police who allowed protests in Talapady as such protests are not possible in Mangaluru. “All of us stand with the two families of the victims of police shootout. We are prepared to campaign against BJP and Sangh Parivar, in spite of their religious attempts to divide the country by different Acts. BJP leaders should learn the meaning of state anthem.”
K C Road Al Mubarak Juma Masjid Khateeb Munir Sakhafi said that it has become a practice to make fun of Muslims by saying love jihad and terrorists. “Prophet Mohammed did not teach terrorism but compassion. The protests will continue till we get justice. People of all religions are living in harmony in the country and there are no problems,” he said.
MLA U T Khader said that the government at the centre will lose in the matter but not India. “This is the campaign of uniting the dream country of Dr B R Ambedkar. We will not allow implementation of National Register of Citizens. As a PM you have gone to Pakistan and dined there. You had begun bus and train services to Pakistan and signed agreement to play cricket. It is laughable to hear from you that protesters should go to Pakistan. We will not be afraid even if you register ten cases of treason against us,” he said.
Siddik Talapady in his key note address said that Muslim community was fragmented for the last several years. But the words ‘NCR’ have made them unite. There was a setback for community because of some people who came only for programmes saying that they are Muslim leaders. Two people were shot because of lack of leadership. The youth will unite and campaign,” he said.
Irshad Ajjinadka, Khaleel Talapady were present. Nasir welcomed the gathering. Salam Uchil compered the programme. Ashraf K C Road rendered vote of thanks.
This is the second protest in K C Road after Mangaluru unrest. Thousands of people took part. RAF, KSRP, DAR, Ullal and Konaje police had arranged strict security to avoid untoward incidents.
