Mangaluru, Jan 3: The Department of Mechanical Engineering of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru organized TEQIP 1.3 sponsored five-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Outcome Based Education (OBE) and NBA accreditation for faculty members of engineering institutes from December 30, 2019, to January 3, 2020. The FDP was organized in association with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU)-Belagavi, Aryabhatta Knowledge University-Patna, Biju Patnaik University of Technology-Rourkela.
The five-day FDP included sessions on effective implementation of OBE from several perspectives. More specifically, it was intended to address the implementation of the OBE system at affiliated institutions. Specific responsibilities of institution-level administrators, heads of individual programs and individual faculty were addressed through specially designed interactive sessions.
The FDP was inaugurated on the first day by the chief guest, Dr Umakanth P Kulkarni, professor and head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering at SDM College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad.
Fr Rohith D’Costa, incharge director of SJEC, Fr Alwyn Richard D’Souza, assistant director of SJEC, Dr Rio D’Souza, principal of SJEC, Dr Shreeranga Bhat, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Coordinator at SJEC, Rakesh Lobo, HR manager at SJEC were also present on the occasion.
Dr Rio D’Souza spoke about the importance of OBE and described the necessity of imbibing it at engineering colleges. He briefly spoke about the accreditation process and remarked that practising OBE at grassroots levels does assist in getting accredited by statutory bodies like the NBA.
Dr Umakanth Kulkarni, speaking about the implementation of OBE mentioned that it is directly proportional to the learning that takes place inside the classroom. He urged the participants to embrace modern teaching pedagogies which eventually enhances the overall teaching-learning process.
Fr Rohith D’Costa in his presidential address mentioned that the implementation of OBE has helped SJEC in maintaining the quality standards and getting accredited by NBA for 3 cycles.
He assured that the participants of the workshop will have a lot to take back to their respective institutions and called upon them to take an active part in the five-day program.
Dr Shreeranga Bhat welcomed the gathering. Joel D’Mello compered the inaugural. Several sessions on OBE and NBA accreditation were scheduled on all five days of the program.
