Mangaluru, Jan 1: "Anything that does not create value is defined as a waste. To a common man's eye, anything that is unwanted or not useful is garbage or waste. However scientifically speaking there is no waste as such in the world. Almost all the components of solid waste have some potential if converted or treated scientifically. Organic or inorganic waste produced, which has lost its value in the eyes of the first owner but which may be of great value to somebody else is a solid waste. Generation of waste is inevitable in every habitation. Shakthi Black Soldier composting pit is a solution to the waste generated in the campus," said Sri Ekagamyananda Swamiji of the Ramakrishna Mission.
Sri Ekagamyananda Swamiji addressed a gathering during the inauguration of the Shakthi Black Soldier Composting Pit at the Shakthi Campus.
He opined that this venture is the first of its kind in an educational institution in the city under their guidance. He insisted that the students, as well as the parents and the community at large, be made aware of sorting dry and the wet waste at the source and then subject the wet waste to the bin, where the naturally present Black soldier Fly will act upon it and produce fertile organic manure. Swamiji called upon the audience to be part of the solution.
Ranjan, co-ordinator for the Mangaluru chapter Swacch Abhiyana was present on the occasion along with dedicated volunteers to support this noble task at Shakthi.
K C Naik, the managing trustee of Shree Gopalakrishna Temple acknowledged the guidance of Swami Ekagamyanandaji on the occasion and considered it to be a blessing in disguise.
Saguna C Naik, the managing trustee, Sri Ramesh K- The chief advisor, Sri Prakhyath Rai-Institute Development Officer, Neema Saxena were present on the occasion.
Vidya Kamath, Principal of Shakthi Residential School, welcomed the gathering and spoke on the significance of waste management. Prabhakara G S- Principal of Shakthi PU College proposed the vote of thanks.
