Mangaluru, Dec 31: Three young men who entered the sea at Sasihithlu beach near here on Monday December 30, faced grave danger to their lives. Local fishermen succeeded in rescuing two among them but the life of the third youngster could not be saved.
Three friends, all engineers employed at Bengaluru, had ventured into Arabian Sea at Sasihithlu for swimming. Soon, they were caught unawares by strong undercurrent. The locals jumped into the rescue act and saved the lives of Srikanth (27), son of Manjunath from Nagarbavi, Bengaluru and Bharath (28), son of Ramayya from J P Nagar. Satwik (28), son of the late Neelakanta from J P Nagar Bengaluru lost his life.
All three were long-time friends, and after completing engineering degree course, were working for a private concern at Bengaluru. On December 28, they had left Bengaluru in a car to tour coastal Karnataka. After visiting Kollur, Honnavar and Sri Krishna Math at Udupi, they had come to Sasihithlu beach at around 5 pm on Monday.
A few fishermen including Yashpal and Rakesh from Hejamady Kody, were undertaking fishing on their boats at Sasihithlu when they rushed to rescue the youngsters after hearing their shouts for help. They could not save Satwik's life but his body was recovered. Srikanth and Bharath were admitted into a private hospital at Mukka.
Suratkal police who visited the spot, collected details and registered case of unnatural death.
