Ponda, Sep 16: Minister for Home Ravi Naik laid the foundation stone for the prestigious Rs. 27 crores new Market Complex at Budhwar Peth, upper Bazar Ponda.
The project which will accommodate shopkeepers transacting business at Budhawar peth will come up on a land admeasuring 13400 sq mts.
The work will be executed through Goa State Urban Development Agency and is expected to be completed in one year. The project will have provision for 120 shops, auditorium residential flats, cafeteria, offices parking and other facilities.
Speaking on the occasion Ravi Naik said that the new market complex was the dream project of the people of Ponda which once completed will benefit the traders and growing population of Ponda town. He said, he has been successful to achieve rapid development of Ponda and its surrounding areas.
Listing the development projects which are proposed to be taken up in Ponda Mr Naik said the existing Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir will be renovated incurring an expenditure to the tune of Rs. 17 crores through GSIDC, the work of which will commence from January next year, besides this, a Sahakar Bhavan and Rest house will be constructed and that the 220 bedded new hospital is in final stages of completion he said and added that state of art swimming pool and Sports Complex is now visible in Ponda.
Stressing the need for proper planning in the area of development Mr. Naik felt the need to have provision of composting unit in new buildings to tackle garbage problem. He solicited cooperation of the people in the process of development and at the same time asked them not to oppose the developmental projects which are in the interest of the state and its people. “ Do not oppose the projects mere for the sake of opposition as this will only hamper the development of the village and the State” he added.
Shailendra Shinkre, Chairperson of Ponda Municipality sought cooperation of the Home Minister to take up the work of proposed garbage treatment plant at Keri.
Earlier Jayant Tari ,Chief Officer Ponda Municipality welcomed and Milind Madguth proposed the vote of thanks.
