Mangaluru, Dec 27: In a case in which 34 people waylaid the tempo, which the police were towing after confiscating the illegal cattle in the tempo, the court sentenced 21 people to six months imprisonment and also fined Rs 8,500. The remaining accused are absconding.
Residents of Ulaibettu and Kantarabettu area Khadri alias Abdul Khader (53), Puthu alias Ajmal (32), Ajhar (32), Azharuddin (31), Abu Kethikal (31), Tanzil (27), Nasir alias Abdul Nasir (32), Faizal (29), Hanif (37), Altaf (33), Mustafa (32), Asif (30), Azeez (35), Iqbal (33), Latif (33), Mustafa (32), Nawaz (37), Nawaz (38), Manzoor (38), Nausheer alias Nasir (33) and Rashid (38) are the ones who were sentenced by the court.
Justice Ashwini Kore of third JMFC court conducted inquiry of nine out of the 11 eye witnesses. Ravish Nayak, the then inspector of rural police station had conducted the preliminary investigation and filed a chargesheet in the court. Assistant government prosecutor B Mohan Kumar argued for the prosecution.
