Mangalore, Sep 16: St Aloysius College (SAC) Konkani Union will be organizing inter-collegiate Konkani competitions at SAC auditorium here on Saturday September 26. The Konkani competitions are being organized with the objective of promoting the language among youths, to motivate them to pursue Konkani study in colleges, to strengthen Konkani union, and to bring all Konkani youth under an umbrella.
The registration for the competitions will begin at 8.45 am on Saturday at SAC auditorium. The inaugural will be held at 9.30 am and valedictory ceremony/ prize distribution at 3.30 pm.
The competitions will be held in group singing, collage, mimicry, and dance.
Under group singing, the duration allowed is four minutes; musical instruments are allowed, five to eight people (including musician) can take part, and can sing any Konkani song except devotional hymns.
In collage, the theme is ‘Unity in Diversity’. Participants are allowed to use a single sheet of chart paper, not allowed to write anything on the chart paper except to stick paper cuttings that are to be brought by them. Only three people are allowed in a group, the participants are suppose to bring all the accessories, no downloaded internet pictures are allowed, and the duration is 20 minutes.
For mimicry, a minimum of four and a maximum of eight people can take part while indecent jokes will not be allowed and the duration is three plus one minutes.
In group dance, the duration allowed is four plus one minutes, a minimum of four and a maximum of eight people are allowed in a group, any Konkani music can be used except devotional hymns. All the accessories have to be brought by the group themselves and can use only CD.
General Rules and Guidelines:
Entry to competitions is free and they will be for PUC and degree students. The competitors are advised to maintain the purity of Konkani and groups should be formed well in advance by their respective colleges. Fifteen students are allowed from a college, and competitors will have to bring their own accessories and also identity cards issued by their respective colleges.
Collage and mimicry competitions will be held simultaneously. Bonus points will be awarded to colleges that take part in all the competitions. The jurors’ decision binds all and only competitors are allowed inside. Snacks and lunch will be served to competitors and teachers accompanying them.

The winners will be awarded first, second, and third prizes, as well as a certificate and trophy for winning college. Besides, certificates will be awarded to each participant.
