Bantwal, Dec 26: Five persons, who were facing the charge of coming together at the Hindu graveyard at Rottigudde, Maripalla in Thumbe village and had drawn up a plan to commit robbery that failed eventually, have been sentenced to three years of simple imprisonment each. This judgement was passed by the fourth additional district and sessions court on Wednesday December 25.

Those who were found guilty in the case are Muhammed Arfaz (19) from Ullal Melangady Milat Nagar, Shaqir from Maripalla in Pudu village, Naufal T (24) from Rottigudde, Pudu, Shameer T (24) from Rottigudde, Pudu, and Mohammed Nisar (22) from Maripalla in Pudu village.

A police team led by Bantwal rural police sub-inspector, Prasanna M S was on patrol duty on May 5, 2018, when the team received reliable information about the presence of a gang that was plotting robbery. The police team raided the spot, arrested the concerned and registered a case.

The then Bantwal police circle inspector, M S Prakash, investigated the case and filed charge sheet against the accused. The fourth additional district and sessions court which heard the case, passed order, sentencing the accused to three years of simple imprisonment. Public prosecutor Harishachandra Udyavar, argued the case on behalf of the prosecution.
