Kundapur, Dec 24: “Life begins carrying the message of the worldly human. Everything is open here. The man loses his principles in the hustle of current ways that should not change. Appanna Hegde grew in such a situation and became a model for meaningful life,” said temple trustee, Dr G Bhimeshwara Joshi who spoke at the 85th birthday celebrations of Basruru Appanna Hegde and awards presentation programme. The programme was held at Basrur Sharada College open auditorium on December 24.

“He has accepted ups and downs of life and presented special contributions in all the sectors. The arrival of his children and grandchildren in the celebrations reflects the culture. Learning is continuous throughout life. B Appanna Hegde is witness that the person who has the desire of contributing to society by being a student lives strong and healthy. The birthday celebrations should be an example to the entire society,” he said.

Head of Alvas Group of Institutes, Dr M Mohan Alva said that the direction towards which society heads these days is creating anxiety. “When we dream of value-based life on one side, on the other side it is confined only to talk. Therefore, we have to proceed further along with challenges of achievements. Education grows as a market. It should be free from profit. It is my fortune that I am identified with the award in the name of Appanna Hegde, the devotee of spiritual, political, educational and social sector.”

The book ‘Appanna Hegdeyavara Poorna Jeevana Darshana’ was released on the occasion. Economically weak students and special achievers in education were presented scholarships. Former minister K Amarnath Shetty Moodbidri presided over the programme. Foundation president, Ramakishan Hegde and Jayashree Amarnath Shetty were present.

Grandchildren of Appanna Hegde offered a garland to him and congratulated the organization conveners. Medical education section handed over funds. Anupama S Shetty welcomed the gathering. Ram Kishan Hegde read the annual report. Journalist, U S Shenoy gave an introduction. Radhakrishna rendered the vote of thanks. R J Nayana compered the programme.

A cultural programme was held by Alvas students after the hall programme.
