Bengaluru, Dec 24: BJP MP Tejasvi Surya's remarks about people protesting against Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens that puncture fixers and illiterates are leading these protests, have come in for large scale criticism from the social media.
Surya, addressing a meeting in the city in favour of the above moves of the central government, had made these remarks. Many who took to social media held that this is an attempt to show a section of the society in poor light. A number of people also said that being a responsible member of parliament, Surya is showing his immaturity through such talk. Several have wondered whether poor and illiterate people have no right to protest. Another person pointed out that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, expresses pride about his past as a tea vendor whereas people like Tejasvi have been looking down upon poor people with disdain.
Many including Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar have said that the MP should be nursing a sense of sympathy and support for such people rather than being proud of their position he has been enjoying now. Siddaramaiah said that this comment has exposed the RSS line of thinking.
Former deputy chief minister K S Eshwarappa, has advised Surya to be careful when uttering words at a time when the situation in the state is tense. At the same time, he questioned whether Khader was right in saying what he said.
