Mangaluru: Congress demands RS 25 lac compensation, jobs for victims’ families

Mangaluru, Dec 24: The minorities unit of Dakshina Kannada district Congress Committee has urged the state government to disburse compensation of Rs 25 lac each to the families of Nousheen and Jaleel, who were killed in police firing during at the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) disturbances in the city. It also wanted one each member from these two families to be provided with government jobs.

District president of the unit, S S Kareem, addressing a press meet here on Monday December 23, condemned the police action and demanded judicial inquiry by a sitting high court judge. He said that there has been widespread opposition to both National Register of Citizens and CAA, and his party has also been strongly expressing against these acts. He charged both the central and state governments of trying to crush the protests with the help of police. He demanded for the withdrawal of these two acts with immediate effect.

Mangaluru taluk Congress minorities’ unit president Muhammed Monu, blamed the police department for making false allegations over protests held on December 19. He also condemned the charges being levelled by BJP leaders against MLA U T Khader.

Party leaders Lawrence, U B Saleem, Zacharia Malar, Basheer and others were present.
