Panaji, Sep 14: The Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) has in a letter to Menino D’souza, the Director of Panchayats and ex-officio Joint Secretary of Department of Panchayati Raj and Community Development called for the urgent meeting of the reconstituted District Planning Committees (DPCs) for the North and South Goa Districts in view of the limited time available for the said DPCs to consolidate the Development Plans of the various Village Panchayats and Municipals Councils within the State.
The letter further points out that the meeting of the DPCs is urgently required in view of the Department of Town and Country Planning working to finalize the Goa Regional Plan 2021.
GOACAN has further called upon the Director of Panchayats to immediately monitor the setting up of Ward Development Committees (WDCs) is all the Village Panchayats of Goa keeping in mind the significant role the WDCs will have to play in finalisation of the Annual Plans as well as the 5 Year Plans.
It may be noted that the Govt. of Goa has recently in a Gazette Notification reconstituted the District Planning Committees for North and South Goa District wherein Shripad Naik – Lok Sabha MP North, Francisco Sardinha Lok Sabha MP South and Shantaram Naik, MP – Rajya Sabha are members. Further, the Members of the Legislative Assembly whose constituency’s lies within the respective Districts are made permanent invitees.
Copies of the representation have been submitted to CM, CS, Chief Town Planner, DMA, CEO, Zilla, Adyaksha Zilla, Respective Collectors, MPs Lok Sabha, MP Rajya Sabha, Secretary - Town & Country Planning, Secretary - Urban Development, amongst others.
Meanwhile, GOACAN during its awareness campaign “Gram Sabha Zagrut Za” will disseminate information about the members of the reconstituted DPCs their Role, Task & Responsibilities. GOACAN will also promote discussion in the forthcoming Gram Sabhas in October on the Annual Plans of the village and the 5 Year Plans to be prepared by the respective Panchayat with the help of WDCs.
