Mangaluru, Dec 23: Former chief minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah demanded judicial enquiry headed by high court judge with regard to the killing of two people in the police firing during the recent protests over Citizenship Amendment Act in the city on December 19.
Siddaramaiah was speaking at the Mangaluru International Airport on Monday, December 23.
When asked about handing over the Mangaluru violence for CID enquiry, Siddaramaiah said, "Firing is done by police. CID enquiry will be done by police. Then how it is possible to know the truth? So I demand a judicial probe in this case.”
When asked about Yediyurappa's confused statement over judicial enquiry, Siddaramaiah said, "The chief minister always lies and he do not know to speak the truth. He himself is giving certificate to the police as if he was the eyewitness for the incident.”
When asked about MP Tejasvi Surya’s statement, Siddaramaiah said, "This shows the mindset. They have no concern for the poor, coolie workers and Dalits. He represents RSS and what can we expect from him?”
When asked about Yediyurappa's statement that mob tried to enter weapons room of the police station which forced the police to shoot, Siddaramaiah said, "I have demanded judicial enquiry and he is not the eye witness. Then how can he pass such statements?”
When asked about enacting demolition of Babri Masjid at Kalladka school, Siddaramaiah said, "Prabhakar Bhat is like the chief minister of this area. He is the remote control of the government. No one has delivered provocative speech like Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat. Case should be registered against him immediately. FIR is already lodged then he should be arrested.”
Siddaramaiah visited the residences of the deceased at Khandak and Kudroli and also handed them over compensation cheques. He also visited Bunder area where the protest took place on December 19. He is expected to proceed to Unity Hospital and Highland Hospital and later address media at Circuit House.
Siddaramaiah was accompanied by Congress leaders M B Patil, Zameer Ahmed, Ramanath Rai, Abhayachandra Jain, Mohiuddin Bava, MLC Ivan D’Souza, former mayor Kavitha Sanil and others.
