Mysuru: Man who promised marriage, stole gold chain arrested

Mysuru, Dec 23: Personnel of K R police station in the city have arrested Vineeth Raj (47), resident of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, who had cheated a lady by promising to marry her. The man had befriended the lady through a marriage website and earned her trust. He had fled after stealing a golden Mangalya chain worth about Rs 80,000 belonging to her.

Vineeth had left for Coimbatore two days back. Staff of K R station went there and arrested him.

Vineeth has been accused by a widow from the city of having been cheated on November 18 this year. After losing her husband, she was looking for a companion who can support her. For this purpose, she had registered herself in a marriage website.

Vineeth Raj, who came across the lady's name in the said website, got friendly with her by talking to her on mobile phone. He made her believe that he would marry her. He told her that before marriage, they need to get rid of some impurities. For that purpose, he said, they need to exchange their respective ornaments. The lady said that he came to the city, and when having food with her in a restaurant, went out with the promise of returning in a few minutes and then went missing.
