Kasargod, Dec 21: The procession organized at Kanhangad by Muslim League against the implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) turned violent, forcing the police to use batons to disperse the mob.

When caning failed to have desired result, the police used teargas shells. The police resorted to lathi-charge and bursting of teargas shells after the protesters got together behind the Hosdurg treasury at 6 pm on Friday and began to pelt stones at the police.

The situation turned ugly when protesters raised provocative slogans at T B Road after which the police used sticks and teargas shells on them. A procession taken out at Neerchalu resulted in serious injuries to a person when members from the procession hurled stones at a house and those sitting on the pavement near the shops. A person identified as Srikant suffered serious injuries in the incident, and he stands admitted into a hospital here. Badiadka police who rushed to the spot, controlled the mob.

Karnataka government buses stopped operations and private buses moved till Talapady. Two persons suffered injuries after stones were pelted at buses at Manjeshwar and Uppal on Thursday night. Shibu (48) from Kozhikode and bus conductor Deepu (30), were injured. Both were admitted into hospital.
