Bantwal, Dec 21: The heat of curfew in five police station limits in Mangaluru after protests against Citizenship amendment act 2019 and police shooting yesterday had touched Bantwal also.
Shops that remained partly closed in Bantwal, B C Road, Melcar, Kalladka, Vitla and other important places in the town downed their shutters in the afternoon. No untoward incidents were reported.
Anxious situation prevailed for some time as people gathered when police personnel stopped vehicles that were preparing to come to Mangaluru at Addoor near Polali. The number of people and the vehicles on the road was less. While private buses stopped operations, KSRTC buses plied only till B C Road.
Police have sent back some people who were persuading to close shops in Bantwal in the morning. Some shopkeepers closed their shops on their own.
Sufficient policemen are deployed at Bantwal circle. Bantwal police have assured that they will not give room to create disturbances.
District panchayat CEO Selvamani and taluk tahsildar Rashmi S R are stationed at B C Road centre and watching the situation. Different government offices including taluk mini Vidhan Saudha were empty without people.

“Additional care is being taken in the district police limits after unpleasant incidents in Mangaluru opposing Citizenship amendment act. There were no untoward incidents other than stone pelting incidents on two buses in Uppinangady,” said Dakshina Kannada SP Laxmi Prasad.
Speaking to reporters at Bantwal on Friday he said that stones were hurled at Volvo bus and KSRTC bus at Arkula on Thursday night. “Bantwal being sensitive area, four KSRP, two tier party, 50 policemen from Chikkamagaluru along with four police officials have arrived.”
“I have taken responsibility of security arrangements in Bantwal taluk. We have visited Kaikamba, Kalladka, Vitla and other areas. Additional SP Vikram Amte had shouldered security arrangements in Puttur,” he said.
Zilla panchayat CEO Dr Selvamani and Bantwal ASP Saidul Adavat were accompanying the SP.
