South Goa collector imposes Railway Act, panchayat minister shows disapproval

Vasco, Dec 20: Panchayat minister Mauvin Godinho on Thursday disapproved the Railway Act imposed in Goa by the South Goa collector. Godinho stressed that it was impractical for the Act to be implemented which would disrupt movement to the routes from other parts of the country. Allegedly the collector imposed it because of a small section of people objecting the railway line project.

"If people had to object they should have done so when the line was first put there. Now there is no point in objecting," Godinho said.

The panchayat minister also stated that the project requires the land to be broadened for the railway line. "More passengers and goods should come in. It cannot be left narrow. It is a country-wide project and because of a few people it cannot be halted," he added.

On the Motor Vehicle Act he said, "As a moral responsibility, the Goa government delayed the implementation. By the end of January, the roads will be repaired in most places."
