Udupi, Dec 20: Senior Swamiji of Pejawar Math here, Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji, was admitted into KMC Hospital Manipal on Thursday, December 19, late in the night.
The 88-year-old Swamiji, known for his in-depth knowledge of scriptures and active association with Vishwa Hindu Parishad, suffered from respiratory problem.
Updating on the Pejawar Swamiji's present condition, Dr Sudha Vidyasagar addressing a press meet here on Friday December 20 said, "Swamiji came to the hospital with severe breathing difficulty, after which we put him on ventilator. He is responding to the treatment, but is still critical. He suffering from breathing problems due to pneumonia. We cannot say anything more about his condition, except that he is improving. He is better now than he was in the morning."
KMC Hospital medical superintendent requested the public to not visit the hospital. "We will release health bulletins every 12 hours," he said.
Later in the evening, rural development minister K S Eshwarappa visited Pejawar Swamiji and enquired after his health, while wishing him speedy recovery. More state and national-level leaders are expected to pay a visit in the next couple of days.
The Swamiji had recently undertaken visit to various places situated in north India. Because of severe winter there and fluctuating climatic conditions, the health of the Swamiji deteriorated, it is learnt. He is in the intensive care unit of the hospital where doctors are continuously monitoring his health condition.
The hospital sources said that the health condition of the Swamiji suddenly deteriorated as phlegm got accumulated in his lungs. After treatment, his condition has shown lot of improvement, the sources added.
“Pejawar Sri Vishveshatheertha Swamiji was brought to Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, with complaints of difficulty in breathing since 5 am this morning from a private hospital. He is currently serious and connected to a ventilator. He is being treated for extensive pneumonia with antibiotics and supportive treatment,” said a press release from the hospital.
Chief minister B S Yediyurappa is expected to visit Pejawar Swamiji on December 21 at the hospital.
