Bengaluru, Dec 19: Protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) have intensified throughout the state. Pro-Muslim and Leftist organizations are protesting in various parts of the state including Bengaluru, Mangaluru and Kalaburagi. Several people are detained by the police.

Police took into custody historian Ramachandra Guha and MLA Rizwan Arshad, who were involved in protest against CAA in the capital city.

In the midst of these developments, it is learnt that chief minister (CM) B S Yediyurappa has directed the police department not to lathi-charge the protesters.

CM Yediyurappa has urged the public of the state not to disturb peace under any circumstances. He tweeted on his account, "Wrong information is being spread about the CAA. Do not listen to any provocative statement that is given with ulterior political motive. Do not disturb the peace and harmony of the society by listening to the talk of miscreants. Also do not destroy public property."

Yediyurappa has also requested the leaders of all political parties not to dampen the aspirations of the public. "CAA is the law of this country now. There is absolutely no harassment or problem for the citizens of this country due to this act and there is no need to panic. The civilians of the country need to get worked up," said the chief minister.

Do not Lathi charge. Go with firing bullets. May be that’s what he meant. That’s what happened yesterday.

Thank you chief minister for taking such stand to check the police brutality. Even jamia milia had serious protest but there was no loss of human life . Yadiyurappa is not same like UP chief minister paanipuri nath.

You woke up very early. As a CM you should have allowed peaceful protests. But your recent statement saying no protests will be allowed snatching the rights of people was in bad taste. It is a constitutional right of the people. However while i don't agree to such brutal police action, i also condemn every person who indulged in violence.

Till when these politicians will fool the people.?
If a single direction to the Police Department can stop lathi charge from Police, why was it not done before the Police shooting on the Protestors? What these Politicains say is the Law. In this way, If they direct shootout, then Police carries out shootout? If they ask fake encounter, then fake encounter.?What a democracy we have where stone pelting is retalialted with the bullets; Police enter Coolege Libraries and Hospitals to trash the unarmed protestors. I thisnk this government always want the Citizens to keep them in everlasting uncertainity and chaos and want us stand in queues throughout the life for demonetization and NRC and so on and on; which eventually is pushing the country downwards for sure.

It is not OK to say something on one hand and prevent right to dissent by promulgation Sec 144 and the ground realities of police brutality on the other hand.
