Mangaluru, Dec 19: The Sisters of Santa Cruz Convent assembled in respectful homage before the monument of the Servant of God Msgr Raymond FC Mascarenhas on Wednesday, December 18.
The monument was inaugurated by Sr Lillis BS, the assistant superior general of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany by cutting the ribbon. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, the bishop of Mangaluru diocese blessed it with the ceremony of prayers. The plaque was unveiled by Sr Anna Maria BS, the provincial councilor of Mangaluru province.
Speaking on the occasion, the bishop called on the sisters to pray through the intercession of Fr Founder for the zest to carry on the mission which was initiated by him. Sr Lillis BS applauded Sr Rekha, the superior of Santa Cruz Convent, Kulshekar and the members for reviving the memories of Founder and the founding members in the campus.The Sisters recalled the yeomen service in the field of Education that began by Msgr Raymond the Founder of Bethany, 87 years before, has created a vibrant heritage of educational apostolate rooted on the solid rock foundation in the hearts of Jesus and Mary, as Sacred Hearts’ School. Santa Cruz has kept to its dynamism in the blossoming of various apostolates viz., faith formation, Infant Mary Orphanage and Jeevandhara Social Service Centre with its outreach programmes for the poor and the marginalized. The monument erected in front of the Convent will be a reminder of this legacy and provide anchor for the memory of the past to persist in the present and for future generations.
The bishop also blessed the renovated grotto of the Blessed Virgin Mary in whose providential care Msgr Raymond trusted and taught the Sisters to develop a filial devotion to her. With the celebration of the Holy Eucharist in the Chapel the programme came to an end. Sr Rekha the Superior of Santa Cruz Convent welcomed the Bishop and Sr Lillis BS the inaugurator of founder’s monument. Sr Leera Maria BS Compeered the programme. Sr Shubha BS, the Provincial Councillor of Mangalore Province thanked all the members for the success of day’s programme. All the members of Santa Cruz Convent were present on the occasion.
